Eco Centre Challenge well received by our Junior School Visitors

All our junior school groups this term were asked to record each time they composted their fruit peelings, recycled something, turned off taps so they didn’t drip, ensured lights were switched off before they left a room, tried a 2 minute shower and left no litter after their countryside picnics. 

 Am amazing 3646 actions were recorded by the children. On average each pupil carried out 8.75 eco-actions during their stay with us. We want to thank them for their involvement and helping us to reduce our water, landfill waste and energy use by 10% this year.

Incredible Growing Beds at Preston Montford

Growth of some Incredible Edible beds at FSC Preston Montford in 2013

We are using a garden border outside Caradoc classroom which wasn't previous used for growing food. It began in March but planting and growth were held up by the bad weather.

Beds set up by Community Payback group on a cold March Sunday

Volunteer gardener has worked hard to get things started and by early June some growth was coming through

The following week saw a major growth spurt

Using Solar Energy at Preston Montford

The sun has finally come out, and Preston Montford is using some new rotary line dryers to save energy.

We hope that, along with our A rated energy saving washing machines and dryers, our new washing lines will help us reach our energy saving target of 10% this year. 

Each tumble dryer load uses an energy-hungry 4kWh of electricity. With Preston Montford using on average 822 kWh of electricity every day, 4 loads drying daily on the line would reduce the Centre's total energy use by 2%. This single action is a small but significant step towards our target and saves 7.2kg of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere every day.
